Another Asthma Treatment Tool?

Thursday September 7, 2006
acupuncture modelThere are many effective asthma medications available today. And avoiding your known asthma triggers is still the best way to manage your asthma. But, if you are looking for another tool to add to your asthma arsenal, you might be interested to learn about a study in California that will be starting soon.

According to Dr. Christopher Cooper, principal investigator and UCLA adjunct professor of pulmonary and critical care medicine, this new treatment consists of a stimulation device typically used for sports injuries and chronic pain and was found—during the course of an unrelated study—to be effective in controlling asthma symptoms too. It's called the Fenzian Treatment System and is similar to acupuncture.

UCLA researchers are seeking adults who have asthma and are between the ages of 18 to 50 for a new study specifically focused on testing the effectiveness of this device in controlling asthma symptoms. You must have mild to moderate persistent asthma.

If you live in the Los Angeles area, you may want to call UCLA for more information about the study: (310) 825-3421.
